A unique collection of papers from the personal files of Thornton W. Burgess's secretary. These files contained material she was planning to use for a book about T. W. Burgess. Eleven pages. Thornton Burgess's copy of the 4 chapters submitted to Good Housekeeping Magazine and printed in the Feb., March, April & May 1906 issues. This was very early in his career at a time that he was only writing short stories and articles for magazines, and usually used a "penname" W. B. Thornton or W. B. T. SIGNED 1 sheet typed. Three paragraphs in rhyme. A wonderful poem that seems to describe the boyhood days of Thornton Burgess. One of his earliest boyhood jobs was to bring home the cows from the community pasture on Town Neck, Sandwich. Aged paper, left edge ragged, blue ink. Waldo was a pen name Burgess used early in his career. $10 94. NATURE STORIES by Thornton W. Burgess. Typed stories for the week of July 13 – 18, 1964. The daily stories submitted to the New York Herald Tribune Syndicate and includes the envelope in which they were returned to Burgess in July, 1964. A unique piece that documents the way that the Burgess stories reached millions of people. Condition of stories is clean on manila pulp paper. Envelope is worn, but complete. Nice. Bowen-Merrill Company. 1894. Was Mr. Burgess an admirer of James Whitcomb Riley?? or maybe of his style? This charming book is from Mr. Burgess' private collection, and contains a full page (hand written) original poem by Burgess addressed "to the author" and signed "T.W.B" 1901, on the front end paper. This was very early in his career. Extremely rare. $90 104. THE BOY SCOUT. Springfield, Mass. December 15, 1910. Vol. 1 Number 1. Single sheet, one side. 13" x 17". One column story by T. B. Waldo (pen-name for Thornton Burgess). CHRISTMAS GREENS. The entire text of the paper promotes the Boy Scouts of America and announces the establishment of THE BOY SCOUT a paper of, about, and for the red-blooded boy. This is from Mr. Burgess' collection. A four-page newsletter, edited by Mr. Burgess and published by the Mother Nature Publishing Co. Resembles the old "Weekly Reader." Wonderful content. Illus. by H. Cady (1) and 4 photos. Images show Happy Jack next to tree bank, with sign "Security Storage and Trust for Squirrel & Chipmunks." Colors good. $45 Rare 109. TWB CHILDREN'S RECORDS ON COLUMBIA GRAPHANOLA ADVERTISING STICKPIN. Promoted the now rare Thornton Burgess children's story-records produced by Columbia Graphanola. This metal and celluloid stickpin featured the same Harrison Cady illustration of Peter Rabbit that was printed in their catalogues. Just over ¾" diameter. Test reads "Peter Rabbit Children's Stories on Columbia Records." VERY SCARCE; NEVER HAVE SEEN ITEM! WONDERFUL. $325
110. TWB QUADDY PETER RABBIT PULL-TOY. Peter Rabbit
hopping pull-toy with H. Cady illus. on each side. Manufactured by the
Quaddy Co. under license with TWB. This pull-toy was manufactured c.
1919, in at least two sizes. This toy is the large size, at 13 ¾"
long and 10 ¼" high, not including the wheels. The single front
wheel is 2 ½: in diameter, and the two rear wheels are 5" in
diameter. (The small size was 8 ½" long and 6 ¼" high, not
including the wheels. The single front wheel was 1 ½" in diameter
and the two rear wheels were 3" in diameter). In working condition:
when pulled along a carpet surface, the rear bobs up and down like a
hopping rabbit. Old repair to rear axle where it joins Peter Rabbit’s
feet. (A rare Quaddy toy – this has never been offered in the
