Education Outreach Programs “Nature
study is the Golden Key to the IN YOUR SCHOOL or PRESCHOOL Burgess Society teacher/naturalists are available to visit your classroom for a 45 minute to 1-hour program covering a variety of science topics. Our specialty is a hands-on science experience allowing students to explore with artifacts and, whenever possible, live animals. Burgess Education Staff consists of full and part time paid teacher/naturalists with an average of 15 years experience in the Environmental Science Field. We currently work in schools from Harwich to Braintree. We also visit private schools and private and public preschools. COST: $100.00 per classroom. ** Tidal Pools in the Classroom Cost is $150.00 per classroom to cover the time spent searching for, capturing and then releasing of live specimens) For schools outside a 20 mile radius of Sandwich add a $. 35 per mile travel charge. ¨ SCIENCE TOPICS We are able to tailor-make programs aligning with your classroom science program. We also offer programs in these content areas:
AT GREEN BRIAR NATURE CENTER Our campus allows for up to 4 classrooms to visit at one time. Students are rotated through centers guided by our education staff. We can offer any of the topics listed above, as well the following seasonal explorations. Our popular Spring Exploration guides students through the varied seasonal signs in nature; bird song and nests, buds and blooms, pond water life, amphibian and reptile exploration. Fall Exploration guides students through how animals and plants get ready for winter, hibernation and migration. Winter Exploration guides students through animal tracks and signs, weather and water. COST: $90.00 per classroom for an hour program. $125 for 1.5 hours and $180 for 2-hours. TIDAL POOL FIELD EXPLORATION Your students can visit area tide pools with our Education Staff. Students will be getting into the salty pools, collecting, examining and releasing what they find. All materials are provided including nets and specimen containers. This is a TIDAL DEPENDENT Program. COST: $100 for an hour exploration or $200 for two-hours per group of 25 students. In addition there is a $25 permit fee charged by the Town of Sandwich. SALT MARSH/ESTUARY FIELD EXPLORATION Our Education Staff accompanies your students out into the Scorton Marsh Area in East Sandwich. Students visit the High Marsh, Low Marsh and Tidal Creek in search of the plants and animals found there. This is a TIDAL DEPENDENT Program. COST: $100 for an hour exploration or $200 for two-hours per group of 25 students.
