CRITTER CAPERS at GREEN BRIAR

Drop in for a half-hour visit with a naturalist and one of the resident animals. Learn about life cycles, habits and habitats. Suitable for families with children ages 2 ½ and up. Advance registration is not required.

BURGESS STORY TIMES at GREEN BRIAR  NATURE  CENTER

Drop by and join a Society naturalist for a lively story of "Peter Rabbit" and friends and a visit with one of the nature center’s resident animals. Suitable for families with children ages 2 ½ and up. Advance registration is not required.

Members: Free     Non-members: $1 per person
Saturdays at 10:30am (September through June)

NIGHT WALKS ON THE FULL MOON

Come for a hooting and howling good time out and about at Green Briar by the light of the full moon. Look and listen for signs of animals and hear some great stories about the moon and night animals. These popular walks are always fun and suitable for families with children ages 4 & up. Advance registration is required.

DISCOVERING TOGETHER (adult and child ages 3-12)

Here is a great program for a budding naturalist and an adult companion. Each program has an indoor and outdoor component. Register for each session separately.

Rocks and Minerals: Millions of years and still going strong. This is a hands-on explore of common Cape Cod rocks.  Friday, February 19     9:30am-11:30am

Wind, Water and Weather: Work together to better understand our natural world with experiments and observation about weather.  Saturday, March 13     2:00pm-4:00pm

Amphibian Romp: Learn about common Cape Cod springtime frogs, toads and salamanders. Be prepared for muddy feet.  Tuesday, April 20     9:30am-11:30am


BENJAMIN & FRIENDS PUPPET TIME (adult and child age 3 and up) Join our outgoing rabbit puppet, Benjamin, as he shares what he knows about his Briar Patch friends in a new program this winter. Each week will have a different focus: how animals stay warm, where they spend the winter, how they get their food, etc. All interaction will be with puppets and hands-on materials.

SHIPWRECKS OF CAPE COD Most Cape Cod wrecks occurred November through March while the Nor-east storms raged. Developed using our collection of slides from Col. Eugene S. Clark, this entertaining and informative talk and shanty sing-a-long covers wrecks from the 1600’s up to 1945.

THE SECRET LIFE OF THE EASTERN COYOTE – Dr. Jonathan Way shares his field research along with over 100 pictures and lots of data on eastern coyotes. He will have copies of his book Suburban Howls: Tracking the Eastern Coyote in Urban Massachusetts available for sale and signing. Call to register.

MEPHITIDAE AND MUSTELIDAE OF CAPE COD This is not a new seafood dish, but rather the families of skunks and weasels, mink, fishers and otters. Learn about these fascinating creatures while exploring skulls, fur and mounted specimens.

HAVE A SPECIAL BIRTHDAY PARTY at Green Briar

Have a fun and educational birthday party at Green Briar. Choose from live animals, fairy houses, jam or candy making, canoeing, "arty" party, and more! We provide a one to two hour program with a naturalist with an additional hour allowed for "party" time. You provide all the party-related food and items. Fees vary with the program selected and are based on 10 participants. Additional fees are charged for additional participants. Parties are scheduled through the Education Department by calling 508-888-6870.
