Family Programs

~ONGOING~ drop in programs

CRITTER CAPERS at GREEN BRIAR

Drop in for a half-hour visit with a naturalist and one of the resident animals. Learn about life cycles, habits and habitats. Suitable for families with children ages 2 ½ and up. Advance registration is not required.

FRIDAYS at 10:30am Members: Free Non-members: $2 per person

ANIMAL STORY TIMES at GREEN BRIAR Drop in for a lively half-hour Thornton Burgess story of “Peter Rabbit” and friends and meet one of the animals featured in the day’s story. Suitable for families with children ages 2 ½ and up. Advance registration is not required.
SATURDAYS at 10:30am Members: Free Non-members: $2 per person

Naturalist-led Family Programs

Advance registration is required for the following programs

POND EXPLORATION STATION:
Green Briar welcomes our new exploration station on the banks of Boiling Springs Pond. Funded through the generous support of the Joan Bentinck-Smith Foundation, our exploration station provides families the opportunity to explore pond life using microscopes and other scientific tools. Exploration during July and August will include a special pond animal focus. FREE TO ALL.
Open from 1:00-4:00pm on the dates listed below. Registration is not required.

SUNDAYS ONLY: June 2, 9, 16, 23, 30

TUESDAY, THURSDAY and SATURDAY during July and August

LIGHTNING BUG BRIGADE - June 15 and June 22    7:30pm-9:00pm
Come explore the fascinating world of lightning bugs. Learn about their life cycles and habits then head out on a lightning bug count to pass on to scientists. Adults, tweens and teens welcome on their own.   Meets at Green Briar

FORENSIC SCIENCE - July 5 and August 16 2:00pm-3:30pm
Families work together exploring finger prints and identifying mystery powders and liquids.
Meets at Green Briar

FAMILIES IN THE TIDAL POOLS - July 5      4:30pm-6:00pm
Families explore the beach and tidal pools. Wear footwear that can survive wet, barnacles and sand. Containers and nets provided.
Meets to the left of Hemisphere Restaurant at Sandwich Town Beach.

SCIENCE FACT OR FABLE - July 12 and August 9    2:00pm-3:30pm
Families work together testing weather lore and animal lore.
Meets at Green Briar

SCIENCE AT THE BEACH - July 19 and August 30     2:00pm-3:30pm

PBS SCIENCE - July 26 and August 23 2:00pm-3:30pm
Families ZOOM into Science planning and completing engineering and chemistry activities.

TOY SCIENCE - August 2 2:00pm-3:30pm
Families work together exploring the science of flight, motion and sound.
Meets at Green Briar

HAVE A SPECIAL BIRTHDAY PARTY at Green Briar

Have a fun and educational birthday party at Green Briar. Choose from live animals, fairy houses, jam or candy making, canoeing, "arty" party, and more! We provide a one to two hour program with a naturalist with an additional hour allowed for "party" time. You provide all the party-related food and items. Fees vary with the program selected and are based on 10 participants. Additional fees are charged for additional participants. Parties are scheduled through the Education Department by calling 508-888-6870 or email mary.beers@thorntonburgess.org
