Learn the tricks to attracting wildlife to your yard, observing nature in the park or uncover what the big deal is with bird watching? Topics vary by the participants and each week we will try to answer your questions. If you have made an observation, noticed something different or just want to talk about nature and natural history, come on over and have Coffee with a Naturalist.

This program lasts 1 ½ hours and covers a distance of 1 to 2 miles and will include mucking about in a salt marsh and wading through the tidal Scorton Creek. We may experience slippery footing and biting flies. A long-sleeved shirt and pants are recommended. Those who put up with this will be rewarded with stunning scenery and a personal look into one of the earth’s most magnificent ecosystems. The fee for these guided walks is $8.00 for non-members and $4.00 for members of the Burgess Society. Meet at the Fisherman’s landing parking area at scheduled times. Description: John Teal and Mildred Teal wrote of the diverse wonders of the Salt Marsh. Come to the East Sandwich Game Farm for a fun hike to learn about salt marsh plants and animals and hear why these soggy spots are important to all of us. Scorton Creek flows out of the Game Farm toward the Barnstable Salt Marsh, the largest marsh on Cape Cod, and we’ll check it out. Wear some slogging footgear because with this entertaining hike we hope to get a little muddy.
(Scorton Creek & Salt Marsh by Canoe) (this is a Canoe Program) Canoe Programs last 3 hours. Exploring nature at eye level from a canoe is a perfect way to see the world we share. The route taken will depend on tide and will ply basic routes for the less-than-skilled paddler. Pack a snack and use waterproof containers for items you do not wish to get wet. Binoculars, bug repellent and clothes that you don’t mind getting muddy and wet will be helpful. The fee for this is $25.00 for the public and $20.00 for Members of the Burgess Society. Description: Jenny's Dam River, Mill, Shove and Scorton Creeks flow through the Game Farm toward the western arm of the Barnstable Salt Marsh, the largest marsh on Cape Cod. Join us for a first-hand introduction to and exploration of this remarkable habitat. We will learn about salt marsh plants and animals that cope in this amazing environment and discover just why these soggy spots are important to all of us. All participants should have basic swimming skills. A good sense of balance and basic canoe skills will help.
