GROUPS  ARE  WELCOME

The Thornton Burgess Society welcomes groups to the Green Briar Nature Center and Jam Kitchen located on historic property made famous by the stories of author and naturalist Thornton W. Burgess. Today the Jam Kitchen is a "living museum" where visitors may view the cooking process first-hand. The jam kitchen still operates using Idaís recipes and preparing the jams, jellies, relishes and pickles the "old fashioned way" in the turn-of-the-century kitchen. Green Briarís sun-cooked preserves are cooked slowly and gently in the oldest commercial solar-cooking operation in the country. They make mouth-watering toppings for ice cream or desserts. The gift shop is filled with our delicious jam kitchen products, Thornton Burgess' children's books and a variety of nature related gifts, books and toys. The Nature Center hosts a small live animal display as well as natural history related exhibits. You can also visit the award winning Wildflower Garden, an herb garden and a lovely whimsical garden.

Bus parking is located at the Nature Center and visitors should spend at least an hour enjoying all the sights. For group reservations, please email joan@thorntonburgess.org or call Joan at 508-888-6870. Advance reservations are a must due to children's educational programs scheduled at the Nature Center the during summer. A per person admission rate of $1 is charged and due at time of arrival or can be arranged by credit card payment, when the reservation is made. We take MC, Visa and Discover. We look forward to working with your groups.
