In this labor of love he achieves the most complete picture of Thornton Burgess’s growing-up available. Here we find reminiscences in Burgess’ own words, family pictures, and outlines of the families most connected to the Burgesses.  Mr. Lovell is also at pains to paint the picture of turn-of-the-century Sandwich, where this all happened.

            Although this book is not a true biography, it does also provide an overarching narrative of Burgess’ life after he left Sandwich.
