        2012 Special Events Calendar

May 18, 19, 20: HERB FESTIVAL at Green Briar from 10 am - 4 pm. Our 31st annual Herb Festival features an extensive plant sale (herbs, perennials, wildflowers, everlastings and annuals), exhibits and lecture/demonstrations on the use of herbs, guided garden walks and a delightful luncheon accented with herbs. Paid reservations required for luncheon and lectures. Please call (508)888-6870.  

June 9:  STRAWBERRY FESTIVAL
at Green Briar from 11 am - 2 pm.  Enjoy fresh strawberries in a scrumptious dessert. View strawberry jam making in the historic 1903 jam kitchen.  Visit the small resident animals at the nature center and stroll the paths of the wildflower garden and Briar Patch trails.  Desserts are $4 and all proceeds benefit the educational programs of the Thornton W. Burgess Society and its Green Briar Nature Center.

July 11:  GARDEN TOUR in Sandwich from 10 am - 4 pm.  Visit  a number of lovely private gardens in Sandwich at your leisure anytime between 10 am and 4 pm.  Tickets for the Garden Tour are available in advance or on the day of the tour for $15.

August 4:   BLUEBERRY FESTIVAL at Green Briar Nature Center & Jam Kitchen from 11 am to 2 pm.  Celebrate our native blueberry during the height of the season.  Enjoy a special  blueberry dessert in the historic 1903 Jam Kitchen along with a demonstration of blueberry jam making.   Desserts are $4, and all proceeds benefit the educational programs of the Thornton W. Burgess Society and its Green Briar Nature Center.

August 15:  PETER RABBIT'S ANIMAL DAY at the Green Briar Nature Center  from 10 am - 2 pm. This day of outdoor family fun with live animal exhibits, a pet rabbit show, story times, and personal appearances by Peter Rabbit, Reddy Fox and Smokey the Bear. Refreshments are available.   Free admission.

September 8 & 9:  BIRD CARVER & WILDLIFE ARTS SHOW & SALE at the Green Briar Nature Center & Jam Kitchen from 10am to 4pm. New England’s most prestigious carvers of birds and animals plus wildlife painters will gather at Green Briar to show and sell their wares during our 9th annual carvers’ show. Some will give carving demonstrations for the public. All admission fees benefit the educational programs of the Burgess Society. Purchase tickets at the door. Admission: $3 members, $5 non-members

October 6:  CAPE COD CRANBERRY DAY at Green Briar from 10 am - 4 pm.  Green Briar celebrates this native berry with cooking demonstrations in the 1903 Jam Kitchen, special exhibits on the cranberry industry on Cape Cod and homemade baked cranberry goods, clam chowder & chili.  Admission is by donation. November 17:  OLD MOTHER WEST WIND'S CHRISTMAS CRAFTS FAIR at Green Briar Nature Center and Jam Kitchen from  10 am - 4 pm. Find something special for the holidays among our quality handmade wreaths, gifts and decorations. Enjoy some home-baked goods, mulled cider and a cup of our home-made clam chowder or chili.   All proceeds benefit the educational programs of the Thornton W. Burgess Society.

Dec. 1 & 2, 8 & 9, 15 &16:  COUNTRY CHRISTMAS at Green Briar Nature Center and Jam Kitchen from 10 am - 4 pm. (Sunday 1 - 4pm)   Come by our open house during the first three weekends in December and enjoy our holiday decorations inspired by a country home in a bygone era. Taste a sampling of our delicious Jam Kitchen products and a cup of mulled cider. Browse among a variety of great holiday gift ideas in the Green Briar shop offering jams, jellies, relishes, books and an abundance of nature-related items.
