May 16, 17, 18:
HERB FESTIVAL at Green Briar from 10 am - 4 pm.
Our 33rd annual Herb Festival features an extensive plant
sale (herbs, perennials, wildflowers, everlastings and
annuals), exhibits, garden walks and a delightful luncheon
accented with herbs. Paid reservations required for
luncheon and lectures. Please call (508)888-6870.
June 7: STRAWBERRY
at Green Briar from 10 am - 4 pm. Enjoy fresh strawberries in a
homemade dessert served in the historic 1903 Jam Kitchen and view
old fashioned strawberry jam making from 11am-2pm. Fee for dessert
is $4.00. Sample jam tastings in our gift shop. Browse among the
used book sale. Visit the resident animals, stroll the paths of the
Wildflower Garden or walk the trails of the Old Briar Patch.
June 20: ANNUAL MEETING
at Green Briar at 6pm
The Annual Meeting of the Thornton W. Burgess Society will be held
in the Putnam Education Building at Green Briar. All members are
invited. Program and light refreshments will follow a brief meeting.

BLUEBERRY DAY at Green
Briar Nature Center & Jam Kitchen from 10 am to 4 pm.
Celebrate our native blueberry at the
height of the season. Enjoy a special homemade blueberry dessert
served in the historic Green Briar Jam Kitchen along with a
demonstration of blueberry jam making from 11am-2pm. Desserts are
$4.00. Spend some time enjoying all that Green Briar has to offer.
Special Demonstration from 1:00-3:00pm by P.J. Hamel, author of the
King Arthur Flour cookbooks and long-time King Arthur test kitchen
baker. Ms. Hamel demonstrates fast and easy cream shortcakes, scones
and Welsh cakes- all the perfect base for your tasty, fresh-picked
blueberries. Bring all of your baking questions for her to answer as
well. Free admission to all.
August 16 - 17:
BURGESS DAYS Celebrate the 375th Anniversary of the Town
of Sandwich at the Green Briar Nature Center from 10
am - 4 pm. Families will enjoy indoor and outdoor activities
throughout the weekend. Free admission.
September 6 & 7:
CARVER & WILDLIFE ARTS SHOW & SALE at the
Green Briar Nature Center &
Jam Kitchen from 10am to 4pm. New England’s most prestigious carvers
of birds and animals plus wildlife painters will gather at Green
Briar to show and sell their wares during our 11th annual carvers’ show.
Some will give carving demonstrations for the public.
As a special feature this
year, the show will host
Talkin’ Birds radio program, which will be broadcast
from Green Briar between 9:30am and 10:00am on Sunday. All admission
fees benefit the educational programs of the Burgess Society.
Purchase tickets at the door. Admission: $3 members, $5 non-members
CAPE COD CRANBERRY
DAY at Green Briar from 10 am -

cooking demonstrations in the historic 1903 Jam Kitchen using
traditional cranberry jam and relish recipes. Enjoy a delicious
homemade cranberry dessert, clam chowder or chili served from
11am-2pm. Spend some time walking the nature trails on a fine fall
day. Fee for dessert is $4.00.

GOURMET CHOCOLATE CANDY CLASS FUNDRAISER
Sunday, DECEMBER 14 11:30am - 4:00pm
Join us as renown
chocolatier/confectioner Raymond Hebert conducts a candy making
class, chocolate tasting and fine wine pairing at the Green Briar
Jam Kitchen. All proceeds will benefit the Thornton Burgess Society
and Cape Cod Museum of Natural History. The class is limited to the
first 15 participants who send in their pre-paid registrations to
the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History in Brewster (508-896-5588).
All ingredients will be donated by Stage Stop Candy of Dennisport.
Wines donated by friends of Thornton W. Burgess Society.
Participants will be able to bring home what they make. They will
learn melting/tempering chocolate, advanced chocolate ganache,
Almond Toffee Crunch, authentic Kentucky Bourbon Balls, Old
Fashioned Puff and if time permits Cut Marshmallow.
The cost (donation) is $200 per person.

20 &21: COUNTRY CHRISTMAS Come by our Open
House at Green Briar during the first three weekends in December.
Taste a sampling of our delicious Jam Kitchen products and a cup of
mulled cider. Browse among a variety of great holiday gift ideas in
the Green Briar shop offering jams, jellies, relishes, books, an
abundance of nature-related items as well as books, games, puppets
and toys for children. Unique handmade gifts and home decorations
created by our Green Briar Crafters are also available.
Saturday, JANUARY 17 THORNTON BURGESS BIRTHDAY
Cost: $2.00 per person
Families are invited for a
SPECIAL naturalist-led story time with live animals in honor of the
141st birthday of Sandwich native, author and conservationist,
Thornton Waldo Burgess [1874-1965]. Each child will receive a
paperback Burgess storybook.
