2017 - Special Events Calendar 

May 19, 20 & 21  ANNUAL PLANT SALE at Green Briar from 10 am - 4 pm. Our 35th annual PLANT SALE features an extensive selection of  perennials, wildflowers, herbs, annuals, specialty annuals, vegetables and garden walks.

June 10:  STRAWBERRY
DAY at Green Briar from 10 am - 4 pm.  Enjoy fresh strawberries in a homemade dessert served in the historic 1903 Jam Kitchen and view old fashioned strawberry jam making from 11am-2pm. Fee for dessert is $4.00. Sample jam tastings in our gift shop. Browse among the used book sale. Visit the resident animals, stroll the paths of the Wildflower Garden or walk the trails of the Old Briar Patch.

July 12:  GARDEN TOUR in Sandwich from 10 am - 4 pm.  Visit a number of lovely private home gardens in Sandwich at your leisure anytime between 10am and 4pm. Light refreshments will be served overlooking the Wildflower Garden at Green Briar. All proceeds benefit the educational programs of the Society.   Our Garden Tour is part of the Cape Cod Hydrangea Festival. Check with the Society office for fees and details.

August 16:   BLUEBERRY DAY at Green Briar Nature Center & Jam Kitchen from 10 am to 4 pm.  Celebrate our native blueberry at the height of the season. Enjoy a special homemade blueberry dessert served in the historic Green Briar Jam Kitchen along with a demonstration of blueberry jam making from 11am-2pm. Desserts are $4.00. Spend some time enjoying all that Green Briar has to offer.  Free admission to all.

August 9:   PETER RABBIT'S ANIMAL DAY  This annual event is a popular fun day for families with young children. Come and enjoy live animal storytimes, exhibits and activities with local environmental organizations, a visit with Smokey the Bear, games and crafts, and personal appearances by Peter Cottontail. New this year - “Science in the Street” run by the Cambridge Science Festival is bringing their fun hands-on interactive science activities to Animal Day. Bay Song, a Cape Cod singing duo, will entertain with their fun and engaging songs offered in a variety of musical styles, sure to get children and adults up and moving.   Free admission for all.  

Sept 9 & 10:  BIRD CARVER & WILDLIFE ARTS SHOW & SALE at the Green Briar Nature Center & Jam Kitchen from 10am to 4pm. New England’s most prestigious carvers of birds and animals plus wildlife painters will gather at Green Briar to show and sell their wares during our 14th annual carvers’ show and sale. Some will give carving demonstrations for the public.    All admission fees benefit the educational programs of the Burgess Society. Purchase tickets at the door. Admission: $3 members, $5 non-members

September 30:  CAPE COD CRANBERRY DAY at Green Briar from 10 am - 4 pm  celebrates this native berry so prominent in the history of Cape Cod.  Green Briar celebrates this native berry so prominent in the history of Cape Cod. See cooking demonstrations in the historic 1903 Jam Kitchen using traditional cranberry jam and relish recipes. Enjoy a delicious homemade cranberry dessert, clam chowder or chili served from 11am-2pm. Spend some time walking the nature trails on a fine fall day or take a cranberry bog tour. Fee for dessert is $4.00.

   Come by our Open House at Green Briar during the weekends of Christmas in Sandwich. Taste a sampling of our delicious Jam Kitchen products and a cup of mulled cider. Browse among a variety of great holiday gift ideas in the Green Briar shop offering jams, jellies, relishes, books, an abundance of nature-related items as well as books, games, puppets and toys for children.
