Volunteer Opportunities

Achieving Goals

Our mission is to carry on the pioneering work of children's author and naturalist, Thornton W. Burgess, "to inspire reverence for wildlife and concern for the natural environment". We continue to strive through educational programs and community outreach to raise awareness of our natural world.

The Society came into being through volunteer effort. Without the valuable assistance of our volunteers over the years, our goals could not have been achieved.

Come share your talents and skills, or learn something new. Become an integral part of a team which enables us to make a difference and realize our goals!

Current Opportunities

Volunteers are needed in a variety of functions and areas: 

Currently we need volunteers to act as receptionist for 3 hours per day, 1 day a week at the Green Briar Nature Center or the Thornton Burgess Museum.  Training will be provided.

Unpaid Intern at Thornton W. Burgess Museum  May 1 through October 28th
   *  Maintain and organize collections
        1.  Books
        2.  Documents
        3.  Photographs
        4.  Exhibit work
    *  Work on publications

Animal Care
Docent at the Museum  3-4 hours, 1 day per week, May through October
Special Fundraising Events
     Herb Festival (May)
     Strawberry Festival (June)
     Garden Tour (July)
     Blueberry Festival (August)
     Peter Rabbit's Animal Day (August)
     Cape Cod Cranberry Day (Sept)
     Christmas Craft Fair (Nov.)
